The LQ Group: new member of the AS-International Association

With the launch of the AS-Interface in 1990, this consortium of eleven well-known manufacturers of actuators and sensors succeeded in replacing parallel wiring with bifilar wiring. Sensors and actuators from different manufacturers could now be connected to a standardised digital or serial interface. In order to benefit from the synergies between the system's manufacturers and users, the following year saw the foundation of the AS-International Association. The Besigheim-based company LQ Mechatronik-Systeme has recently become a member of this association.

The association's main aim is to promote bus-compatible interfaces for binary sensors and actuators and, above all, to continue developing the system on an ongoing basis. The association now has close to 300 members worldwide and has succeeded in setting an internationally-recognised standard on the lower field level. The AS-Interface is more an intelligent cabling system than a true fieldbus. The association initially focused on technical issues, but is now also active in the marketing area. This is an advantage for all its members, as they can benefit from the synergies and technical support provided by such a large alliance. In addition to joint marketing initiatives, members also have an opportunity to benefit from international networking in order to tap into new markets. It is very valuable for members to have a standard quality label, as it gives customers confidence when it comes to compliance and compatibility.

"We are one hundred percent convinced of the positive benefits of the AS-Interface. That’s why our modular A-TEC motor starter is based on this bus system", explains Sybille Schwarz, Head of Marketing. "It is the system that makes the most economic sense for the lower field level. It's hardly surprising, because it is so easy and cost-effective to install, and even the connection costs are low. So for us, it was a logical next step to join the AS-International Association in order to really benefit from its synergies." The LQ Group has recently become an active member and its products are displayed on the Association's website. This is an option that is available to all manufacturers of AS-Interface products. Members have full voting rights and can also take part in a range of marketing initiatives. For example, LQ will be showing its products on the AS-Interface stand at the Hannover Messe trade show from 23rd to 27th April.

Around eight years ago the LQ Group chose the Ottmarsheimer Höhe industrial estate near Besigheim for its company headquarters and since then has continued to develop the site. A modern new production building with staff facilities has been built at the company's site to respond to the need to increase output and the desire to optimise production.
